MAURITANIAN FILMMAKER

Mohamed Echkouna produced a narrative short film promoting women's rights to an education, called Trail of Hope.

Umsizi funded the film so that promising filmmaker could learn the craft of visual storytelling. African stories created by Africans.

DRC REFUGEE YOUTH LEADER

Joseph Munyambanza provides education and livelihoods training to displaced East African youth.

Umsizi provided Joseph with a stipend so he could return to Uganda to run CIYOTA after completing university in the US.

SECONDARY SCHOOL ENTREPRENEUR

Madelle Mabong Kangha co-founded JumpStart Academy Africa to provide students between the ages of 15 and 19 with real-world, hands-on learning. JSA offers enterprise creation, community engagement and academic excellence.

Umsizi provided Madelle with funds so she could get her NGO started (and offered a matching grant to attract other funders)

Eddy Oketch launched a group of youth leaders from each of Kenya's 47 counties in to promote peaceful elections. He has also developed Ongoza which cultivates youth business ventures.

Umsizi enabled Eddy to launch his venture and funds the formalization of staff and management systems.

HBS ONLINE BUSINESS TRAINING

Harvard Business School launched HBX CORe (Credential of Readiness) an interactive online course which teaches the fundamentals of business thinking.

Umsizi funded four African social entrepreneurs to complete HBX CORe.

AFRICAN HEALTH RESEARCH INTERNSHIPS

Umsizi has funded stipends so that more than twenty young leaders can work in the worlds best research labs and learn about managing infectious diseases and other African health issues.  Fellows have worked at multiple institutions including:

  • Dantec Hospital, Dakar Senegal
  • K-RITH, KwaZulu-Natal South Africa
  • Ragon Institute, Boston US
